Mid Season Catch up with Colin Turkington

In the 2023 season of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), Colin Turkington has continued to demonstrate the immense skill and tenacity that have made him one of the most admired drivers in the series. With several races left in the season, he has already left a significant impact, and we are all intrigued to see what the rest of the season will bring for him.

Turkington got off to a strong start this year, demonstrating both pace and consistency right from the very first race. He has managed to consistently score points in every one of the races, which is no mean feat given the level of competition in the BTCC. The Team BMW driver’s first win of the season came at Brands Hatch Indy, where he gave a masterful performance.

During this season so far there have been some challenging weekends of inclement weather, but Turkington has adapted brilliantly to the changing conditions, showcasing his versatility as a driver and fending off some robust opponents. This was a testament not only to his driving ability but also the team’s strategy and the performance of the BMW 330i M Sport.

Apart from his victories, Turkington has repeatedly been on the podium, adding to his impressive tally of top-three finishes. His ability to remain at the sharp end of the grid, race after race, is a testament to both his ability and the strength of the team around him. Among his stellar performances have been a Sunday race win at Brands Hatch Indy, a trio of top results at Sunny Snetterton, a magnificent performance at Oulton Park, and his 66th BTCC victory at Croft circuit.

After his most recent victory, Colin said: “It’s such an important win… and feels so good! I really didn’t think it was on the cards.”

He added: “A big well done to Team BMW, we grafted really hard for that one today and kept working for a step forward despite it feeling impossible to go forwards. Races are getting harder to win so it feels so good to be back on the top step at Croft.”

With 11 races still remaining, it’s all to play for, and if we’ve learned anything from watching Turkington over the years, it’s that he certainly won’t be backing down.
